About Schmitz Family Practice

Schmitz Family Practice is an independent, hometown clinic serving Charleston and surrounding communities since October 1, 2010. You’ll find us at 1006 E Main Street, Charleston, AR 7293. A building with local history: it was once the Town and Country Grocery Store, purchased by Dr. James Schmitz in 2008 and thoughtfully renovated into today’s welcoming clinic.

Our providers—James Schmitz, DO and Timbi West, APNdeliver compassionate, high-quality care for patients of all ages, grounded in hometown values. Our goal is simple: treat every patient like family

James Schmitz, DO

Dr. Schmitz graduated in 1992 from Oklahoma State University College of Osteopathy. He began practicing in 1993 and completed his residency in 1995 at the Area Health Education Center in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, affiliated with UAMS. In 1995, he began practicing in Greenwood with Sparks (now Baptist), and in 2000, he returned home to Charleston to serve his hometown.

In 2010, he left Sparks and opened his own independent practice and has been serving Charleston and surrounding communities ever since!

He’s not only the heart of Schmitz Family Practice, but also serves as Medical Director at Greenhurst Nursing Center in Charleston and at the Western Arkansas Guidance and
Counseling Primary Care Clinic in Fort Smith.

 “My goal has always been to treat people the way I’d want my own family to be treated.

Timbi West, APRN

Timbi graduated from the University of Kansas Medical Center in 1995 with a focus on Family Practice and rural health care, and also obtained national certification in Psychiatric/Mental Health in 1990. Her career began in Missouri, where she served at the Nevada State Hospital
and then provided rural health services for five years through Bates County Health.

In 1996, she made Arkansas her home and joined the Mercy Clinic in Fort Smith before settling into Charleston in 1998—right where her heart belongs.

Timbi also proudly served 9 years in the U.S. Army Reserves and has participated in Christian
medical mission trips to El Salvador and Mexico—experiences that have enriched both her personal and professional life.
